Cox plate lineup and selections

1. Kolding (10)J: JAMES MCDONALD T: CHRIS WALLER W: 59KG
Best Odds: $16
Rating: BET
COMMENT: He has won his last two pretty impressively albeit in lesser company. He beat a good field in the Epsom last year before winning the rich Golden Eagle. Has drawn tricky in this and his best racing has been in Sydney. He has the ability to win but there are too many things against him against a field like this. Place chance
2. Humidor (14)J: CRAIG WILLIAMS T: CHRIS WALLER W: 59KG
Best Odds: $19
Rating: BET
COMMENT: He won the Feehan Stakes to book his spot in another Cox Plate. He was retired but returned to racing under Chris Waller and he has him near his best. He always puts in but his best is behind him and i can't see him running in the placings from the wide barrier.
3. Fierce Impact (12)J: LUKE CURRIE T: MATTHEW SMITH W: 59KG
COMMENT: He deserves his place in the Cox Plate but im not sure he is good enough to beat some of these unless it is really wet. He has drawn a pretty bad barrier for his racing pattern and will probably be posted wide throughout. Racing well but a few lengths below the better horses in this.
4. Master Of Wine (1)J: MICHAEL RODD T: MICHAEL, WAYNE & JOHN HAWKES W: 59KGBest Odds: $34Rating: BET
COMMENT: He was a late decision for the Cox Plate but definitely deserves a shot at the race. He has drawn to get an easy run throughout however will need some luck. His run in the Caulfield Cup was just okay after being one of the best backed horses in the race. He could be a bit of a surprise horse in this race but he will need everything to go right. Outside chance.
5. Mugatoo (9)J: JOHN ALLEN T: KRIS LEES W: 59KGBest Odds: $23Rating: BET
COMMENT:
He has won three in a row prior to his second placed finish in the G1 Metropolitan. Connections opted to bypass the Caulfield Cup to run in the Cox Plate which will be an advantage over some backing up. He is yet to prove himself in this class but he keeps getting better. One of the best each way bets in the race.
